Designed as a mid-weight base layer using 17.5 micron superfine merino wool. The result is a soft, supple next to skin layer that provides excellent moisture management as you sweat out those long tough days afield. Whether your grinding out a steep arduous accent, or glassing from a windy ridge top, the Kaibab bottom will provide you the warmth, comfort and breathability you have come to expect from a stellar base layer bottom.

Merino wool is one of natures most impressive renewable fibers providing a mountain of natural performance features hunters have come to expect. The Merino fiber can absorb up to 35% of it's weight in moisture and still feel dry, thus creating a micro-climate around your body allowing you to maintain core temperature while conquering the elements.

I have been running the new merino wool base layers for about a month now. I have been doing everything outside with them on from watching and feeding winter range animals, working in frigid temps and playing in the snow with my family. I never once have been too cold or too hot in them. For a base layer that is a perfect combination. I wear a 32″ waist and have a large pant, they fit perfect. I love how they have a large waist band which keeps the merino bottoms in place even while being acitve. As far as the length goes, they run to my mid calf which allows me to place a good layer of socks on along with my boots without adding heat or extra layers inside my boot. So far I have no complaints! I can’t wait to put them to the test this spring on a black bear hunt.

you cant beat skres merino system. was highly impressed by the kaibab wicks moisture very easily which is key in keeping warm in cold weather. plenty of stretch to prevent movement restriction when hiking in snow packed hill sides

The Kaibab is a great merino base layer. I ended up wearing it in unseasonably warm temperatures in Maine, and was surprised how cool it kept me. I have other merino base layers from competing companies and the Kaibab is right there with them but at a better price in my mind. As for fit, they did run a bit small, but that just might be me. I usually wear an L in bottoms and bought that size because of previous reviews, but I found the L to be a bit tight in the calf for me (I am 6’3″, 205, but my calves aren’t particularly huge or anything). Some more athletic hunters might fit great in an L, but I took advantage of the free sizing exchange and Mike’s awesome customer service and had an XL that fit great in a few days. The bottoms are awesome–you don’t know that you have them on, unlike some other brands of base layers. They are like a second skin. Overall the Kaibab is a great base layer, particularly for the price.
